5-Year Developer Here, I Hate Coding Tests
In real work, we collaborate while looking at repositories and develop by searching things up, but coding tests demand solving problems from scratch within an hour—it's stressful.
Recently took an SQL coding test, and they threw in a twisted 3-way join. Who even writes queries like that on the job? lol
Still, big companies keep using coding tests, so I can't give up. Maybe I should start an algorithm study group again?

Agreed... I'm a 6-year veteran in the field, and coding tests suck. I once saw a problem that twisted three SQL joins and just felt dumbfounded. But what can you do? If you want to get into a big company, you gotta do it.
Well, I see it a bit differently. It's true that coding tests are disconnected from real work, but aren't they about assessing problem-solving skills and the attitude toward writing code in new situations? Still, I admit they're super stressful lol.
Oh, I didn't know that. I've had similar concerns—would a study group help? But is it true that using three joins in real work is rare? I use them sometimes...
Do you have a source? Everyone knows it's different from real work, but from a large company's perspective, they need a filtering standard, so it's unavoidable. I think solving more LeetCode or Programmers problems would be more effective than algorithm study groups.
