I'm a college student who's recently become interested in game development and planning to dive into it seriously over this break.
Unity uses C#, while Unreal uses C++ and Blueprints. From a beginner's perspective, which engine is easier to learn?
I'm also curious about the pros and cons of each engine. I've heard Unity excels in 2D and mobile games, while Unreal is great for high-quality 3D graphics. I'd love to hear from actual developers about what criteria you use to choose between them and any experiences you can share.
Also, if you know any free courses or recommended books, I'd really appreciate it!
I had similar concerns when I was in college, and personally, I recommend starting with Unity. C# has a much more intuitive syntax than C++, and Unity offers plenty of official tutorials and free courses that are beginner-friendly. Creating 2D games is especially easy, and if you're targeting the mobile game market, Unity is a practical choice. Unreal can be learned later when you need high-quality 3D—it's never too late.
