Why I Quit a Book Club After 3 Months

I went to a book club near my office for three months. Everyone was great, but once I started feeling pressured that I "had to" read the book, that became the hardest part.

In the end, I admitted to myself that I have more fun reading alone and left. I'm definitely not saying the club itself was bad—it just wasn't a good fit for me.

For real, book clubs are for people whose goal is the meetup, not the reading, lol

I feel exactly the same way. The moment it starts to feel like homework, the fun disappears completely. Instead, I switched to a "share anything you read this month" approach, and it got a bit better. I think the key is removing the pressure to finish the whole thing.

But isn't that less about the group not being a good fit and more about you making up a reason not to read the book? Three months should be enough time to adjust.
