Looking to build a smart home, any recommendations for a beginner?
I recently moved and want to set up my home as a smart home. My budget is around 1 million won.
What I'm considering:
- Smart lighting: Philips Hue or IKEA?
- Smart plugs: multiple units
- AI speaker: Kakao or Naver?
- Door lock: one that connects to IoT
I'm not sure if I need a hub, or if direct WiFi connection is enough. Any tips from experienced users?

Yeah, you can use it just fine with a direct WiFi connection without a hub. I started that way too, but later if you want to expand, you'll need a hub.
Philips Hue is expensive but reliable. IKEA offers good value, though the app is inconvenient. Many say Naver is better when it comes to AI speakers, and with IoT door locks, you need to keep an eye on the battery life. If you allocate that 1 million won wisely, it seems doable.
But 1 million won is actually quite tight. Lighting and plugs alone are 30-40, and if you add a door lock and speaker, there's no money left for a hub. It might be better to start with WiFi products and then add what you need later.
Got a source? I bought Hue but ended up getting rid of them all lol. It was more annoying than I thought.
