Surviving a Year at a Startup: My Honest Review
I joined an AI startup as a backend developer last year, and now that I've completed one year, here's my honest review.
The Good:
- Flexible work environment, my opinions were well-received
- Got to work with a diverse tech stack (AWS, Docker, FastAPI, etc.)
The Tough Parts:
- Frequent overtime, salary lower than at large corporations
- Uncertainty: projects sometimes got canceled abruptly
Overall: Lots of learning, but high physical toll. Worth the experience for those willing to take on the challenge.

A year isn't exactly short... I've had a similar experience lol but the overtime was really brutal.

Isn't the AI startup scene kind of cooling off now? It was hot just a few months ago.

I envy that you've worked with a diverse tech stack. I'm just tinkering with Flask...

You have to accept that the salary is lower than at large corporations, but the uncertainty is the scariest part. If a project gets canceled, there's an immediate gap in your career.
