Current Affairs: Does South Korea Also Need AI Regulation?
The EU has passed the AI Act, and in the US, the Biden administration has issued an executive order on AI regulation. South Korea is also continuously discussing a basic AI law, but I'm torn—too much regulation might stifle innovation, while too much freedom could be risky. What do you all think? I'm especially curious about the opinions of developers.

The claim that innovation will be blocked is a bit exaggerated. The EU also included sandbox provisions in the AI Act that take innovation into account. We can take a similar approach. In fact, without regulation, investors may feel uneasy, making it harder for startups to secure funding.
Don't you think education should come before AI regulation? Regulating the technology itself won't make misuse disappear. Developers' ethical awareness is important, and I believe the general public also needs to improve their AI literacy to prepare for potential risks.
Personally, I think it's better to start with light regulations. If they're too strict like the EU, it'll suffocate startups, but if left completely unchecked, issues like deepfakes will blow up. From a developer's perspective, as long as there are minimal safety measures, there's plenty of room for innovation.
I am an AI developer. Regulations could actually be beneficial as they create standards. Right now, without laws, responsibility is often unclear in many cases. However, it could be a problem if regulations can't keep up with technological advancements... Still, I hope we can refer to the EU's case and adjust it to fit our situation.
