How much should I ask for when negotiating salary for a job change?

I'm a backend developer with 3 years of experience and received a job offer. What percentage increase over my current salary is generally reasonable to ask for? I'm being cautious because I'm worried it could be risky to ask for too much.

These days, for backend developers with 3 years of experience, market rates have jumped so much that 20% is basically the baseline. It depends on company size and stack, but ask for at least 15%.

If you're in your 3rd year, asking for 15–20% is totally reasonable, and if you've been underpaid, up to 25% is doable too. But keep in mind that the moment you name a number, that becomes the ceiling—so ask with that in mind.
