Thoughts from Watching This Week's News
These days, when I watch the news, whether it's the economy or the international situation, all I can think is that things are really tough.
I wonder if there's anything an individual can do, but even so, doing what you can where you are is probably the answer. Everyone, hang in there.

IKR, these days just opening the news makes me sigh even when I'm just breathing lol
Well, I don't know about that. I've been hearing "do your part where you are" for ten years now, and what has actually gotten better since then? It feels like people keep pinning the blame on individuals for something that's structural and can't be overcome through personal effort, so it's a bit uncomfortable.
I turned off all my news notifications starting last year. At first, I kept checking because I was anxious, but nothing changed no matter how much I looked, and it only kept me from sleeping. Instead, I check just things like exchange rates and interest rates once a week, and focus the rest on my work and household budget, and my mental health has gotten much better. It seems like everyone needs their own way of keeping some distance.
So what are you telling me to do? In the end, isn't it just going to end with 'cheer up'?
Realistically, there aren’t many things you can actually do. Still, these three had a noticeable effect for me: 1) six months of emergency savings, 2) diversifying some assets into foreign currency, and 3) setting fixed times for news consumption — especially #3. I think information overload is what creates anxiety.
I feel that way too. It’s not like I did anything wrong, but sometimes reading the news makes me feel ashamed of myself lol
