Things I Really Regret After Moving
I moved last month, and because I didn't prepare at all, I wasted both money and time. If you're moving next, take note.
The things I missed: First, scheduling the internet installation. I applied on moving day and survived on a hotspot for a week. Second, changing my address. Updating it with banks, credit cards, insurance, and all sorts of apps takes a surprisingly full day. Third, filing the move-in report. Make sure to get the confirmed date on your lease as well. If you're on jeonse or monthly rent, not doing this will cause headaches later if there's a deposit issue.
When looking for a place, definitely check the natural light. Everything looks bright in photos, but it's different when you actually go there. It's good to visit once in the morning and once in the evening. Also, be sure to check for footsteps from upstairs. If you go during the day, they pretend to be quiet.
In conclusion, moving is far more stressful than buying things. Make a checklist in advance and cross things off one by one.

Internet, seriously... I get it. I applied on moving day, but the installer's earliest appointment was next week, so I got by with a hotspot lol. Next time I'll apply a week before moving.
I can't stress this enough: move-in report + fixed date. I was living on a jeonse lease when the landlord was suddenly replaced, and I went through hell rechecking the property register and fixed date. A lot of people don't know that it only takes effect if you file it dated the day you move. On your moving checklist, write these three in bold: 'move-in report,' 'fixed date,' and 'address change.'
But can you really check for upstairs footsteps during the day? Maybe if it’s during kids’ school drop-off and pick-up hours, but most of it is them rolling around at night... That just seems like a matter of luck. Wouldn’t it be better to put only things you can actually verify on the checklist, like natural light, water pressure, mold, and drain smells?

I've moved four times, and these days you can do almost everything with a single app, so changing your address is relatively manageable. What really eats up time is arranging furniture and appliances and sorting out things to get rid of. Starting two weeks before the move, if you sort things little by little into three boxes—'throw away,' 'sell,' and 'take with you'—moving day becomes much easier. Also, compare moving quotes from at least three companies. I once paid an extra 200,000 won because I was in a hurry. Lastly, on moving day, carry your cash and valuables yourself. This is the most important thing.
