My 6-Month Experience at a Seed Startup While Preparing for a Job Switch
It was a place I joined right after finishing bootcamp, and I really felt firsthand that people matter more than technology.
The good part was that the lead developer did really thorough code reviews. Thanks to that, I developed a standard for clean code, and no feature—no matter how simple—ever went out without test code.
The downside was that the product direction changed every three months, so most of the features I built were discarded. Even if I wanted to build something for my portfolio, it was hard to take initiative, and since I was always putting out fires, I didn't feel like I was growing much.
In conclusion, being in an environment with senior review is a real blessing, and if a place doesn't have that, I'd better avoid it unless I can grow just as fast there.
