Just got back from Japan and was genuinely shocked by the prices
I went to Tokyo, and whether it's because of the exchange rate, most things felt similar to Korea or even cheaper. Same with convenience store food, and Japanese restaurants were great value for money.
I especially noticed how cheap transportation is. Even after moving around all day, I never spent more than 1,000 yen. It made Korea's subway feel expensive.
Of course, accommodation is pricey, but if you're just traveling and want to enjoy good food, Japan seems like the best.

I've been to Tokyo too, and aside from the accommodation, it definitely seemed better than Korea. Especially buying food at convenience stores was cheaper and better quality than in Korea. But the accommodation prices were seriously insane. ㄷㄷ

Right, I went to Osaka last month too and was genuinely surprised by the transportation costs. In Seoul, 5,000 won a day is pretty standard, but there, 1,200 yen gets you anywhere. But just for reference, that's only because the exchange rate is favorable right now—if the yen weren't so weak, it'd be a different story. If you're planning a trip to Japan, make sure to check the exchange rate before you go.

Hmm, that's a bit different... When I went to Tokyo last year, prices felt similar to Korea, or if anything, more expensive. Especially restaurant and cafe prices were on par with or higher than in Seoul. Since how prices feel really depends on the exchange rate, it could be that it seems cheaper these days because the exchange rate has dropped.
I feel the same way. The first time you go to Japan, the prices are surprising.
You can definitely cut costs by booking accommodation near a station that's a bit further out on booking sites. Hotels in central Tokyo are really expensive, so staying in Yokohama or Chiba and commuting in works well too.
