Finally Shipped a Side Project Over the Weekend
I finally deployed a project I'd been putting off for six months. The features are nothing special, but getting to the point of pressing that "deploy" button seems to be the hardest part.
The stack is Next.js + Supabase. I didn't have to write any backend at all, which makes it perfect for building solo. I got stuck once on connecting the domain, and stuck again on setting the environment variables.
What I built is a reading log service, and it gets 3 visitors a day lol. Still feels good, though.

Congrats congrats, the first deployment is always the hardest, seriously
Hold on—saying you don’t need to build a backend with Next.js + Supabase feels like a bit of an exaggeration, doesn’t it? Once you start adding RLS policies or auth, you end up writing something pretty close to server logic anyway. I think it’d be better to tone down the “without a backend” phrasing.
I’ve been dealing with something similar too—attaching and detaching the domain for three weeks now... What turned out to be the problem with your environment variables? I wasted a whole day because of a case-sensitivity mismatch between .env.local and the deployment environment variable names.
If there are 3 visitors, one is you, one is a crawler, and one is me lol. Anyway, congratulations.
Getting stuck on domain connection is a total classic. That 30 minutes waiting for DNS propagation feels like the longest.
