Is it okay to have ChatGPT edit my resume?

I want to polish my resume, but I don't have anyone around to review it, so I'm not sure what to do.

I tried running it through, and the sentences come out cleaner, but it feels too robotic. How do you all use it?

Agreed — the sentences come out pretty, but there’s definitely a robot smell lol. Better to use it only for polishing, and then rewrite the final version in my own words.

I only have it write the draft, and then I overhaul everything. If you set conditions like “keep this sentence and just change the phrasing,” it feels much less mechanical. Adding two or three examples of my tone to the prompt was also pretty effective.

Well, these days, a resume that clearly looks like it was run through ChatGPT actually works against you. In interviews, when you ask candidates to get specific about their own experience, the ones who sound like they're reading off a script are instantly obvious—so how do you plan to deal with that?

If I could say one thing as an interviewer: when something is too polished but empty on substance, you can tell right away. Fill in your performance metrics before worrying about the wording.

I actually landed a new job with this, so to cut to the chase, you can use it. But the order matters. First, I dumped out all the raw sentences I had written, then pasted them in and used it at the level of 'just remove redundant expressions.' When I started with 'write me a resume' from the beginning, it spat out something like a company introduction. And at the end, be sure to read it out loud. Any sentence that doesn't roll off the tongue reeks of AI. After going through it three times like that, I got interviews at three places.

Honestly, I think the bigger issue is not having anyone around to review it. AI corrections are just a supplement; it's far more valuable to buy a current professional a coffee and ask them to take a look. Even just a LinkedIn DM.
