Just got back from my final interview — if they say 'we'll contact you within two weeks,' does that mean I failed?
Had my final interview today, and at the end they said they'd 'contact me within two weeks.' I'm wondering if that kind of phrasing usually means rejection. It was also unusual that it came from the working team, not HR...
If anyone has experienced this, or if there are any interviewers here, I'd appreciate your input. When you pass, do they usually pin down the schedule right away?

I ended up passing the final round this time. They said they'd contact me. At first, I went over a week without any news and thought I'd failed, but then they reached out around day 10 and I'd made it. It's case by case, so don't jump to conclusions too early.
Well, that's a bit... if it was said by the actual working staff, not HR, it could actually be a positive sign? On average it's a rejection, but it's not certain.
If it comes from the working-level staff, it means the decision is already made, so you'll hear back within two weeks—really within two weeks. If it's from HR, it usually takes longer because they need final approval. Don't be too anxious; the best approach is to keep applying to other positions while you wait during that time.

As an interviewer, our principle was to clearly communicate the schedule to the candidate. Saying 'within two weeks' is just a company policy—some companies reach out daily, while others may take up to three weeks from the date of the final interview.
That kind of remark is just a harmless polite greeting — why are you overanalyzing it lol
