Me, agonizing over one keyboard for 3 weeks...

I've watched over twenty YouTube videos just trying to decide between a capacitive and a red-switch keyboard. Conclusion: I still haven't decided lol.

I'll use it both at work and at home, so noise is my biggest concern. They say capacitive keyboards are nearly silent, but they cost twice as much. How did you all decide?

The time spent mulling it over is the most fun lol — once you reach a conclusion, it feels hollow.

Is there a source?

Saying contactless switches have almost no noise is a bit of an exaggeration. Even capacitive switches still have spring noise and the sound of keycaps hitting each other. It's true they're quieter than red switches, but "almost none" feels closer to marketing language. Especially in an office, what matters more is which sounds the person next to you is sensitive to, so judging only by the author's standards could leave you in trouble later.

I use them at both work and home, and in the end I split them up: a quiet one for work and one I can press as much as I want for home. Trying to cover both with a single one kept making my criteria shift. At work, the fastest thing is to just ask the person next to you once. YouTube sound and actual office sound are different. And when the price difference is double, I just bought from somewhere with returns, used it for a week, and then decided.
