How to Persuade a Boss Who Opposes AI Adoption at the Company
I work in data analysis, and I think introducing ChatGPT API or automation tools would significantly boost our work efficiency.
But my boss is hesitant, citing reasons like 'security issues' and 'uncertain cost-effectiveness.'
The materials I have prepared:
- Competitor adoption cases (public articles)
- Estimated cost savings calculations (hourly labor cost vs. API cost)
- Measures to exclude personal information for security
Is this not enough? I'd appreciate advice from those who have successfully implemented AI in the field.

Agreed, I've had a similar experience. In the end, starting with a small-scale pilot turned out to be the answer.
Security issues really need attention. It's not just about de-identifying personal information; you also need to review API call logs and data transmission paths. From a manager's perspective, the risk can feel significant.
Well, if it's just an article featuring a competitor's case study, it might not be very convincing. Wouldn't an interview with someone who actually implemented it or internal data be better?
Do you have a source? Something like a security measure document?
When calculating costs, don't just include labor costs; you should also factor in maintenance and unexpected failure costs so that your boss will be convinced.
That's right lol. I also got pushback for the same reason, but when I emphasized overall workflow efficiency instead of hourly savings, the mood shifted.
Actually, my boss has a point. If we just blindly adopt something and a security incident happens, who's going to take responsibility? It might be safer to only use internally approved tools.
