That Movie I Rewatched After 20 Years Hit Completely Differently
I rewatched a movie I loved as a kid on Netflix. Back then, it was just a fun action movie, but this time I could see why the protagonist made that choice. The ending felt completely different too.
It was fascinating how the same work can be read so differently as you get older. I ended up paused for a long time on one really minor scene.
Has anyone else had a work whose take on it changed when they revisited it?

Agreed. That’s why I don’t casually rewatch movies I used to love lol. I’m afraid it’d shatter the feelings that only the me of back then had.
I totally relate to this. I first saw Life Is Beautiful as a kid and rewatched it over a decade later. Back then, I just thought it was a funny movie about a dad. But this time, I could see the whole father-son relationship, and during the final scene I literally couldn’t breathe. The scenes were the same, but what I saw was completely different.
Well, that’s a bit much. People often say you see things differently as you get older, but honestly, isn’t it just that your memory gets fuzzy? How many people accurately remember what they felt 20 years ago? It’s not that your feelings changed—you’ve forgotten how you originally felt.
