3-Month Review of AI Learning Tools: Honest Pros and Cons
As someone who teaches middle school students, I've been using AI learning tools for the past 3 months. Here's a summary of my experience.
1. AI Problem-Solving Service
- Pros: It automatically generates level-appropriate problems, so it definitely saves time.
- Cons: It still sometimes gives wrong explanations for incorrect answers, especially in math constructed-response questions.
2. AI English Conversation App
- Pros: Since there's no pressure to speak, the kids are less nervous. The pronunciation correction feedback is also quite useful.
- Cons: Conversations keep following similar patterns, so the expressions become monotonous.
3. AI Summarization/Document Tool
- Pros: Efficient when summarizing long texts.
- Cons: It still often misses important nuances in context.
In conclusion, using them as auxiliary tools rather than complete replacements is the best approach. Honestly, students get more excited about AI in class lol. But I still feel that a human needs to establish the basic concepts.
I'm also curious about other teachers' experiences. If you have any good tips, please share.

I use an English conversation app and a problem-solving service together, and I've also run into cases where the problem-solving service's explanations for wrong answers were incorrect. In those situations, having the kids discuss among themselves where the error was actually helped them learn better. As for the English conversation, setting a topic in advance reduced pattern repetition, and the pronunciation correction was definitely solid. For a middle school 3rd grader, it was quite effective.
Well, isn't it a bit too early to conclude after just 3 months? Especially if you just use it as a supplement when the AI gets the explanations wrong for math word problems, kids might end up memorizing wrong answers as correct. And with summarization tools, reading comprehension ultimately has to be developed by the person...
