Writing an English diary with ChatGPT works great

For the past month, I've been asking ChatGPT to 'correct my Korean diary entries into English.' At first, I only asked for grammar fixes, but gradually I started getting suggestions for more natural expressions and synonyms, and my English skills have improved significantly. I especially like that I can learn colloquial expressions that native speakers commonly use. Does anyone else have other tips for using AI for English learning?

I'm doing something similar! After writing a diary in Korean, I ask ChatGPT to 'make this sound more natural in English,' and it helps a lot. Especially when I ask for multiple versions of the same sentence, it really diversifies my expressions.

Oh, I do the opposite—I write my diary in English and ask ChatGPT to 'check the grammar and suggest better expressions.' But sometimes I feel like it only gives me overly textbook-like phrases, which is a bit disappointing. How did you learn native-level colloquial expressions?

It really works well! I ask ChatGPT, 'Change this English sentence into how a teenager would say it,' and it gives me super practical expressions. It's fun because I can also learn slang and abbreviations.

I use ChatGPT for role-playing. When I say, 'Let's practice ordering at a café in English,' it creates a dialogue and corrects my responses, making it perfect for speaking practice. It seems even better when combined with journaling!

Wow, I'll give it a try too! So far, I've only used Netflix English subtitles, but I didn't know there was a way to actively use them like this. Could you tell me how you write your prompts in detail?

Instead of keeping a diary, I use ChatGPT to summarize English news. When I say 'Summarize this article in beginner-level English,' it simplifies the vocabulary, and I can immediately ask about words I don't know. I think it would be perfect if combined with a diary.

I use a similar method too. Additionally, if I say 'Rewrite this sentence in three different tones,' I can learn polite, casual, and business expressions all at once, which is really useful. I find it especially helpful when writing emails.

Try asking ChatGPT, 'Analyze the patterns I frequently get wrong in my English diary.' If you collect a month's worth and ask, you can get feedback like 'Your subject-verb agreement is weak,' which is great for identifying weaknesses. I've improved a lot using this method.

I write my diary in English and ask ChatGPT, 'Can you change this to British English?' It's fun because I get to learn expressions that are different from American English. If I want to see regional differences, I just say, 'Show me the Australian English version too.'

From the perspective of someone studying English professionally, ChatGPT is a great tool, but it sometimes recommends unnatural expressions. Be especially careful with idioms or parts that require cultural context. Still, it seems like a really good method for correcting diaries!
