Tips for Practicing English Conversation with ChatGPT
Since my English speaking skills are weak, I've been using ChatGPT's voice mode, and it's really effective. Here's my method: 1) Set a persona with a prompt like 'Roleplay as a native English speaker who works in IT,' 2) Start a conversation based on a real situation (e.g., presenting an opinion in a meeting), 3) If I make a grammar or expression mistake, I ask 'Can you correct my last sentence?' The real-time feedback makes it more efficient than a language school. The downsides are occasional response delays and usage limits on the free version. Still, consistent practice can be very helpful.

I agree that real-time feedback is better than academies. I usually ask things like 'Explain why this is wrong,' and it even provides grammar explanations, so I understand it well. There are occasional delay issues, but overall, I'm satisfied.
I was skeptical about the claim that it's more efficient than academies, but after actually using it, I can see it's true. The immediate feedback is a particularly big advantage. As for drawbacks, I'd like to add that there's a lack of correction for pronunciation mixed with a Korean accent.
Wow, this is such a great tip! I've been struggling with English conversation, and the persona-setting idea feels really fresh. Especially making it act as a native speaker working in the IT field seems perfect for practicing business English too. I'll have to give it a try!
I'm using something similar, and it's really effective. But the free version's usage limit is a bit disappointing. Still, I think it's worth upgrading to the paid version. Also, try asking questions like 'Can you make it more natural?'
Has anyone tried practicing similarly with text instead of voice mode? I mainly use text, but I'm curious if voice mode is more effective. Thanks for the tips!
This method is great! I use the paid version, so since there's no limit on usage, I use it more often. But sometimes ChatGPT responds too politely, so I can feel the difference from real conversation. Still, it's the best for practice.
Oh, you're using a method similar to mine! I've also tried setting it to 'Roleplay as a journalist' for interview practice, and it was pretty fun. I only use it for about 10 minutes a day due to the limit, but doing it consistently has definitely helped me improve. Keep it up!
Thanks for the great tip! I've been too shy about English speaking to even consider academies, but practicing with ChatGPT seems like a low-pressure way to do it. The 'Can you correct my last sentence?' part is especially practical.
I'm also practicing with ChatGPT, and here's another tip: adding a prompt like 'Speak slowly and clearly' can help with pronunciation correction. However, the downside is that response delays can break your concentration.
