Practicing English Conversation with ChatGPT: Not Bad at All

I didn't want to spend money on English conversation classes, so I've been practicing with ChatGPT's voice feature instead. It corrects my pronunciation and fixes grammar mistakes on the spot, which is great, but sometimes the responses feel a bit too stiff. Adding prompts like 'make it more casual' helps a bit, but it still doesn't feel like talking to a real person. Still, it's hard to complain when it's free.

I'm using something similar too! I was especially surprised by how accurate the pronunciation correction feature is. However, it shows what I say as text right away, and sometimes it misinterprets my pronunciation in weird ways. Still, considering the cost of academy tuition, I'm totally satisfied.

When I put 'like talking to a friend on KakaoTalk' in the 'speak like this' prompt, it feels way more natural. There are still awkward moments, but the biggest advantage is that I don't feel embarrassed even when I make mistakes. In a language academy, I'd turn red over one wrong word, but here, there's none of that.

It's inevitable that it doesn't feel like a real person. I've tried it too, and the conversations are often too logical and emotionless, which can actually feel unnatural. Still, I think it's decent for learning basic conversation patterns. Have you tried any role-playing with specific topics?
