GPT-5 Is Coming — at This Rate, AI Will Really Take Our Jobs
Watching the related news today, I realized that simple coding alone won't cut it anymore. In the past, seeing AI write code made me think hackathons and toy projects could be done in no time, but now it's at a level where it can replace almost all actual work.
Of course, there are jobs that won't disappear. But I think that world will belong to a few experts only. I really can't figure out what to study. How are you all preparing?

Well, that's debatable. It's not like AI is going to replace everything. Back when computers came out, people said jobs would disappear, but eventually new jobs were created.
I had the same concern, but in the end, I think the answer is becoming someone who uses AI as a tool. Prompt engineering and the ability to verify AI-generated code—those two are key. And domain knowledge is the most important. Developers who only code are at risk, but developers who understand the business are still safe.
Just find a field AI can't do and dig into that. For instance, field work or jobs that require face-to-face interaction should be fine for a while, right?

Honestly, it seems like junior devs are really going to have a rough time now. Since AI can do everything I learned as a junior, what's left for newcomers to learn? And seniors are getting busier reviewing AI-written code. In the end, I think mid-level developers are the ones most at risk.
Honestly, I'm just giving up and checking out other options lol. I have no confidence in fighting against AI. The more I study, the more I feel the wall, so I've decided to just prepare for a business instead.
This kind of talk comes up periodically, but in reality, AI increasing work intensity is a bigger problem than it eliminating jobs. With the same headcount handling more work, hiring doesn't grow. Also, adopting AI costs companies money, and because of risk management, full replacement isn't feasible yet. There are regulations too. I'd say it's about half concern, half learning.
I'll probably be retired by then lol. GPT-5 coming out would be a whole new world.
