Key Details
History and Identity
It is one of the representative long-established securities firms that was founded in 1962 and has shared the early history of Korea's securities industry. It established a retail sales foundation through branch network expansion in the 1980s, computerization in the 1990s, and the introduction of an online trading system in the 2000s, thereby establishing a sales identity centered on individual investors. It later grew into a comprehensive financial investment company by expanding its business portfolio into wealth management and investment banking.
Business Segments
- Brokerage: Intermediation of stocks and derivatives for individual investors is its traditional strength. Through its own online trading platforms, the Creon HTS and MTS, and the developer API CYBOS Plus, it provides trading services for domestic and overseas stocks, overseas futures, ETFs, bonds, and other products.
- Wealth Management (WM): It operates wealth management services focused on retirement and tax savings, including wrap accounts, funds, bond-type products, retirement pensions (DC and IRP), and individual savings accounts (ISAs), while running both branch and digital channels.
- Investment Banking (IB): It carries out corporate finance work such as IPO underwriting, rights offerings, corporate bond issuance arrangement, structured finance, and real estate project financing (PF). It has secured a position in deals for small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-sized companies.
- Trading and Management: It seeks to secure stable interest income and valuation gains through bond management, derivatives hedging, and proprietary investment (PI).
Daishin Financial Group and Affiliates
Daishin Securities forms Daishin Financial Group together with affiliates such as Daishin Asset Management, Daishin Savings Bank, Daishin F&I, and Daishin Economic Research Institute. The structure expands product supply and investment opportunities through business linkages among affiliates spanning securities, asset management, savings banking, and non-performing loan (NPL) investment. Daishin Economic Research Institute is responsible for research and supports the group's market analysis capabilities.
Digital and Platform Strategy
It is strengthening competitiveness in digital channels, including non-face-to-face account opening, advanced mobile trading, and expansion of overseas stock and overseas futures services. The Creon platform is recognized among developers and professional investors for its stability and API accessibility, and recently a reorganization integrating pension and wealth management functions into mobile is underway.
Governance and Management
It maintains an owner-management system, and the founder's family is known to hold major shares. The board of directors is increasingly strengthening internal control and risk management functions centered on outside directors, and it is expanding board-centered management in line with financial authorities' strengthened corporate governance disclosure policy.
Financial and Earnings Structure
Its revenue structure consists of brokerage commissions, interest income, IB deal fees, and trading gains and losses. The share of retail, which is sensitive to changes in transaction value, is relatively high, but it has pursued diversification of revenue sources by expanding IB and wealth management. In 2023-2024, earnings volatility increased due to provisioning burdens and valuation losses from the real estate PF market contraction, and in 2025 it is in a phase of seeking earnings recovery based on PF exposure cleanup and capital expansion.
Latest Trends
The developments surrounding Daishin Securities in 2024-2025 are largely summarized in four areas. First, real estate PF risk management. Amid concerns over PF insolvency across the securities industry, reducing exposure, accumulating provisions, and securing asset soundness emerged as top priorities. Second, capital expansion and financial strength enhancement. Attempts continued to increase the capacity of the IB and management sectors through capital-type fundraising such as issuance of hybrid capital securities. Third, diversification of revenue sources. It is setting IB deal sourcing including IPOs and corporate bond arrangement, wealth management centered on retirement pensions and ISAs, and overseas stock and overseas futures brokerage as growth axes while lowering dependence on retail brokerage. Fourth, response to digital and new businesses. Mobile platform reorganization, response to institutional changes such as security token offerings (STOs), and efficiency improvement in research and customer service using generative AI have emerged as major topics. In addition, shareholder return policy and the trend toward dividend expansion, as well as the policy trend across the securities industry to foster ultra-large IB, are evaluated as variables affecting future moves.
