Gimcheon Gimbap Festival
Overview
The Gimcheon Gimbap Festival is a local food festival held in Gimcheon (김천시), Gyeongsangbuk-do, centered on gimbap (김밥). It began to promote Gimcheon's affordable and hearty gimbap culture and the long-standing snack-food commercial district around Gimcheon Station, and has established itself as a citizen-participation festival combining gimbap-making experiences, tastings, local agricultural product markets, and performances.

Background and Origins
Gimcheon has long been called the city of gimbap. Around Gimcheon Station and the downtown area, gimbap restaurants that have operated for decades are concentrated, and it has become known by word of mouth for offering gimbap that is cheaper and larger in quantity than in other regions. As discussions continued about using these local characteristics as tourism resources, a festival themed around gimbap was planned. The festival is characterized by bringing gimbap, an everyday food rather than a particular luxury food, to the forefront to increase accessibility.
Venue and Timing
The festival is mainly held in accessible locations such as the center of Gimcheon, Gimcheon Station Plaza, Culture Street, and the Jikjicheon area. It is often held in autumn (generally around October), so visitors can see families visiting in cool weather. However, the specific schedule and venue may be adjusted for each edition.

In 2024–2025, local festivals have shown a trend of strengthening experiential and nighttime content and online promotion. In addition, attempts are continuing to develop stay-type tourism courses linked with other tourism resources in Gimcheon (Jikjisa Temple, the Mugunghwa Train at Gimcheon Station, local markets, etc.), and differentiation strategies from local food festivals of neighboring local governments are also cited as a major task.
