Overview
Jeon Sang-hyun (전상현) is a right-handed pitcher for the KIA Tigers in the KBO League, a sidearm-style pitcher who mainly pitches in relief (middle relief). Rather than a strikeout-heavy pitcher, he is evaluated as a type with few mistake pitches who induces ground balls and weak contact by mixing a heavy fastball from a low release point with slider and sinker-type pitches. Player career
Early in his professional career, he was recognized for potential but showed ups and downs in control and game management, spending time moving between the first and second teams. The biggest characteristic of Jeon Sang-hyun is his very low release point. Unlike a conventional right-handed pitcher, his arm comes out almost from the side, so batters perceive the ball as coming from a downward trajectory, making it difficult to time. In addition, he symmetrically uses a fastball that cuts deep inside and a slider that drifts away, making both left- and right-handed batters uncomfortable.
He is also not the type whose walk rate spikes suddenly, so even when he puts runners on base, his ability to end innings with double plays or weak contact is considered a strength. However, when his outings become too close together, his stuff tends to decline and he allows more runs, so managing his stamina in the second half of the season is sometimes cited as a factor that determines his performance.
