Its former name was LS Cable & System Asia (LS전선아시아), and in 2023 it changed its name to LS Eco Energy, putting its identity as an eco-friendly energy infrastructure company at the forefront. Based on local production subsidiaries in Vietnam, it produces power cables, processed copper products, bus ducts, and other products and supplies them to emerging markets such as Southeast Asia and India.
Key Details
Corporate History and Governance
LS Eco Energy began as a listed company with the character of an intermediate holding company overseeing LS Cable & System's Southeast Asian business. It was listed on the KOSPI market of the Korea Exchange under the name LS Cable & System Asia, and when it changed its name to LS Eco Energy in 2023, it announced a strategy to expand its business scope beyond cable manufacturing into the energy and eco-friendly materials sectors. Its largest shareholder is LS Cable & System, and as an affiliate of the LS Group, it plays a role within the group's cable and materials business value chain. Since the name change, it has continued attempts to broaden its contact with investors as an energy infrastructure solution company, moving away from its previous image as "a Korean-listed holding company of local Vietnamese production subsidiaries."
Business Portfolio
Its main business is power cables. Through its local Vietnamese subsidiaries, it produces power cables centered on distribution-grade cables and supplies them to Vietnam's domestic market and neighboring Southeast Asian countries. The second axis is the copper processing business, which produces copper rod made from electrolytic copper and materials for wires, securing both cable cost competitiveness and materials business profits. In addition, it is recently nurturing the bus duct business as a growth axis. Bus ducts are high-capacity power distribution facilities used for power wiring in large buildings and data centers; they have advantages over cables in terms of installation space and construction efficiency, and demand is growing rapidly amid expanded data center investment. In addition, existing businesses such as communication cables are maintained.
Vietnam Base and Market Environment
LS Eco Energy's production bases are concentrated in Vietnam. Its production subsidiaries located in places such as Hai Phong utilize the local network and facilities that LS Cable & System has built over a long period, and based on cost competitiveness in terms of labor and production unit costs, they divide roles with the Korean headquarters. Vietnam is pursuing a plan to significantly expand its transmission and distribution grid and renewable energy facilities through the 8th Power Development Plan (PDP8), which serves as a background for structural growth in power cable demand. In addition, the fact that Vietnam has emerged as a "China Plus One" production base amid supply chain reorganization due to US-China tensions is also a factor raising the strategic value of the local subsidiaries.
Financial Performance and Stock Price Trends
Entering the mid-2020s, as expanded global power infrastructure investment, rising copper prices, and increased power demand from data centers coincided, the performance and stock prices of the cable industry overall showed strength. LS Eco Energy also received high attention in the stock market as this favorable industry conditions, the Vietnam growth story, and expectations for new businesses such as bus ducts overlapped, and it experienced a phase in which its market capitalization expanded greatly in a short period. However, because its performance is structured to react sensitively to changes in copper prices as a raw material, exchange rates, and changes in local Vietnamese policy, an understanding of the industry cycle is necessary.
Recent Trends
The key keywords of 2024–2025 are "power grid supercycle" and "data center power infrastructure." As global data center expansion continues due to the explosive increase in AI computing demand, demand for bus ducts, which are high-capacity power wiring facilities, and power cables is increasing simultaneously, and LS Eco Energy is pursuing both expansion of bus duct production capacity and targeting of the Southeast Asian market. The Vietnamese government's expanded power grid investment and renewable energy transition policies are also evaluated as factors broadening order opportunities for the local subsidiaries. Meanwhile, in line with the direction of "eco" contained in its name, the possibility of entering eco-friendly resource businesses such as recycled materials and rare earths has been mentioned, and it has sought business diversification, but this field is still at an early stage, and actual results and scale are areas that need to be confirmed in the future. External variables such as US tariff policy, checks on Chinese-made power equipment, and sharp fluctuations in copper prices are also cited as factors affecting performance.
