Race vs. Guardians
Overview
Race vs. Guardians is a strategy-action game in which the player commands multiple races ('Race') with different characteristics against the massive guardian force known as the 'Guardians'. Beyond a simple faction confrontation, combat is designed around three axes: race-specific abilities, resource management, and unit combinations. Since release, steady seasonal updates have added new races and Guardian bosses, establishing it as long-term live-service content.
Main Content
Worldview and Setting
The game's stage is the continent 'Arkein', where multiple dimensions were mixed together long ago by the Great Rift Incident. After the rift, races from each dimension came to live intermixed in one space, and the Guardians, seeking to maintain order, enforce rules that prohibit movement and unity among races. The player becomes the commander of a racial alliance resisting these rules and follows a narrative of uniting oppressed races and liberating the Guardians' watchtowers one by one. Each race has its own history before the rift and memories of a lost homeland, and this setting serves as the driving force for individual character stories and faction conflicts.
Core Gameplay
Combat takes place in real time, and the player must deploy units within a limited command point pool and activate skills at the right timing. The core is 'matchups' and 'resource circulation'. Each race has a different distribution of attack, defense, and support types, so even the same combination can produce greatly different results depending on the opposing Guardian's attributes. In addition, occupying mana rifts that appear on the field reduces skill cooldown, so securing strongholds and maintaining formation, rather than simple firepower competition, decide victory or defeat.
Factions and Characters
Representative races include the 'Varkan', specialized in close-range assaults; the 'Elion', skilled in long-range magic operation; the 'Technica', which summons mechanical units; and the 'Mutant Clan', which mutates through biological modification. The Guardians side consists of bosses in the Watcher, Arbiter, and Executor lines, and each boss has a gimmick that changes the battlefield rules themselves whenever its phase changes. For example, Arbiter-line bosses periodically block half the field to pressure the player's deployment space.
Growth and Development System
Characters grow through four paths: level, equipment, awakening, and relics. Relics in particular are shared at the account level and are a key element for creating synergy when operating multiple race decks. Early on, developing a single race is efficient, but after reaching a certain stage, mixed compositions are required, making resource distribution planning important.
Multiplayer and Competitive Content
Representative modes include the asynchronous PvP 'Watchtower Siege', the real-time guild battle 'Rift Front', and the cooperative raid 'Great Guardian Subjugation'. Ranking rewards and exclusive cosmetics are renewed each season, and the top-tier meta tends to be greatly shaken immediately after the release of a new race.
Latest Trends
Since 2024, convenience improvements and easing of entry barriers have emerged as a clear trend. The decision logic of auto-battle has improved, reducing the burden of repetitive farming, and growth acceleration sections and free awakening materials for new users have been expanded. In 2025, a synergy system exclusively for mixed races was introduced, somewhat easing the single-race-centered meta, and a custom stage contest using user-generated content became a regular event. In addition, as cross-platform account linking expanded, the proportion of users playing across mobile and PC increased. In the community, discussions continue steadily about the balance patch cycle and the difficulty curve of new Guardians, and demands to reform the reward structure of guild-level competitive content remain a major issue.
