Third Party (3자)

Overview

Third party (第三者, 3ja) refers to a person or group in a third position besides the two parties (bilateral parties) to a specific legal relationship, transaction, or negotiation. In Korean, it is used with the same meaning as '제3자' (third party), but in political and diplomatic contexts it can also mean the structure itself in which three actors participate, as in 'trilateral talks' or 'three-way structure.' As it is widely used in legal, economic, diplomatic, and everyday language, it is a representative polysemous word whose meaning varies by context.
