Gayang-dong
Overview
Gayang-dong is an administrative dong located in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, situated in the western part of Gangseo-gu. It occupies the largest area in Gangseo-gu and is where the Gangseo-gu Office is located. Gayang-dong serves as the western gateway to Seoul and is one of Seoul's representative industrial and commercial areas.
Main Details
History
The history of Gayang-dong dates back to the Three Kingdoms period. During the Three Kingdoms period, it was part of Baekje, and during the Unified Silla period, it belonged to Yangju. In the Goryeo period, it belonged to Gwangju, and in the Joseon period, it belonged to Yangcheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do. On January 1, 1963, Gayang-dong became part of Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. On April 1, 1980, when Gangseo-gu was newly established, Gayang-dong came under Gangseo-gu.
Geography
Gayang-dong is located in the western part of Gangseo-gu, bordering Deungchon-dong to the east, Hwagok-dong to the south, Balsan-dong to the west, and Gimpo-si to the north. The total area of Gayang-dong is 8.45 km², and the population is approximately 140,000.
Industry
Gayang-dong is one of Seoul's representative industrial areas. Various businesses are located in Gayang-dong, with a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises. Gayang-dong has three railway stations—Gayang Station, Balsan Station, and Deungchon Station—making transportation convenient.
Culture
Gayang-dong has various cultural facilities. These include the Gayang Culture Center, Gayang Library, and Gayang Gymnasium, which support residents' cultural activities. Various festivals are also held in Gayang-dong, promoting interaction among residents.
