KB Kookmin Jikimi Award

Overview

The KB Kookmin Jikimi Award (KB국민 지키미상) is an internal award program operated by KB Financial Group (KB금융그룹) — including KB Kookmin Bank, KB Kookmin Card, KB Insurance, KB Securities, and others — to encourage employees and departments that have achieved notable results in financial fraud prevention and financial consumer protection activities. The name 'Jikimi' carries the meaning of protecting customers' assets and financial lives, and contributions in various areas such as voice phishing, messenger phishing, insurance fraud, and abnormal financial transaction detection are subject to review.

Background

With the spread of digital finance, non-face-to-face financial crimes such as voice phishing, smishing, messenger phishing, loan fraud, and insurance fraud increased rapidly. Accordingly, the role of employees who detect abnormal signs at financial company counters, customer centers, and digital channels and stop customers' remittances or prevent additional damage became more important. KB Financial Group established a separate award system to recognize and spread these field achievements at the organizational level.

Review Targets and Criteria

The main review targets are cases such as △ persuading customers suspected of voice phishing to stop remittances △ contributing to the improvement of the Abnormal Financial Transaction Detection (FDS) system △ cooperating in uncovering financial fraud organizations △ leading financial education and financial crime prevention campaigns for vulnerable groups. It is known that the size of damage, number of preventions, reproducibility, customer satisfaction, and spread effects to other departments are evaluated together as quantitative and qualitative indicators.

Operation Method

When each affiliate, branch, or department recommends candidates, the head office review committee selects winners through written review and, if necessary, interviews. Awards are often operated by dividing into regular and ad hoc awards, and excellent cases are produced as internal broadcasts, educational materials, and work manuals and shared company-wide. This aims not merely to encourage but to accumulate financial fraud response know-how as an asset for the entire organization.

Award Details and Significance

Winners may receive a certificate, prize money, bonus points in HR evaluations, and opportunities for overseas training and education. In particular, cases in which counter staff repeatedly persuaded customers to prevent remittances have been reported in the media, serving as an opportunity to enhance KB Financial's image for financial consumer protection. Internally, it contributes to spreading the 'Jikimi' culture and instilling the perception that responding to financial fraud is not the task of a specific department but the responsibility of all employees.

Related Services

KB Kookmin Bank and KB Kookmin Card provide various protection services, including abnormal financial transaction detection, phishing prevention alerts, overseas payment blocking notifications, and guidance on suspected voice phishing numbers. The Jikimi Award functions as an incentive mechanism connecting these systems with field responses, and is operated in conjunction with the group-level financial consumer protection system.

Latest Trends

In 2024–2025, as deep voice and deepfake financial fraud exploiting generative AI and virtual asset-related fraud surged, cases of AI-based detection model improvement, abnormal transaction pattern analysis, and early warning of new methods are increasingly reflected in the Jikimi Award's review criteria. In addition, amid the strengthening of financial consumer protection regulations by financial authorities and the trend of introducing an accountability structure (책무구조도), the importance of related awards is growing further as financial fraud prevention performance is linked to internal control evaluations. Protection activities for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and people with disabilities and records of operating youth financial education programs are also emerging as major evaluation factors, and a virtuous cycle structure that accumulates excellent cases as data and uses them to advance abnormal transaction detection models is being strengthened.
