Kim Seung-hyun
Overview
Kim Seung-hyun (born April 11, 1981) is a former South Korean basketball player who played as a guard. He played for the Seoul Samsung Thunders in the KBL and was known as a three-point shooter for the national team. He is currently active as a basketball commentator.

Early life
Kim Seung-hyun was born in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province. He was recognized as a basketball prospect from his time at Masan High School, and stood out in college basketball after enrolling in the Department of Physical Education at Korea University. In particular, he was regarded as the best backcourt talent in college basketball thanks to his outstanding three-point shooting ability.
Playing career
He was selected by the Seoul Samsung Thunders as the 3rd overall pick in the first round of the 2003 KBL Rookie Draft. From his debut season, he played as the team's starting guard and averaged over 10 points. His signature play was a step-back three-point shot in fast-break situations. In 2006, he won the Three-Point Shootout at the All-Star Game. However, he struggled with knee injuries entering the 2010s. He eventually announced his retirement after the 2012–13 season.
National team career
Kim began playing for the national team in 2001. He contributed to South Korea's silver medal at the 2002 Busan Asian Games and played a key role in the 2003 and 2005 FIBA Asia Championships. Particularly at the 2005 tournament in Doha, he made the game-winning three-pointer against Qatar in the quarterfinals, leading South Korea to the semifinals. His clutch ability on the international stage earned him the nickname "Big Game Steve."
Post-retirement activities
After retirement, he has been working as a basketball commentator for SBS Sports, KBS N Sports, and others. He has received favorable reviews from viewers for his sharp analysis and witty remarks. In addition, he has been serving as a guest coach for the Korea University basketball team since 2015, helping to train younger players.
Recent developments
As of 2024, Kim is working as the main basketball commentator for SPOTV. Recently, he opened a YouTube channel to communicate with fans, providing episodes from his playing days and basketball analysis content. In October 2024, he received a Legend Award at the Korean Basketball League (KBL) awards ceremony, recognizing his contributions to the development of basketball. In 2025, he is scheduled to participate as a committee member in a rookie player mentoring program.
