Kimi K3
Overview
The Kimi K3 is an ultra-compact electric vehicle (Micro EV) launched by Chinese EV startup Kimi in 2023, targeting short-distance urban mobility. It can be configured as a one-seater or two-seater, and has gained attention in China's first- and second-tier cities as well as some European countries due to its low price and convenient charging method. The Kimi K3 differentiates itself from competing models in the existing ultra-compact EV market, such as the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, with its smaller size and unique design.

Design and Size
The Kimi K3 features an ultra-compact body with a length of approximately 2.5m, width of 1.2m, and height of 1.5m. Its exterior has a round and cute design, with round headlamps and a small grille at the front. The vehicle offers various pastel-tone color options, and the interior is available in two versions: one-seater (driver only) and two-seater (driver + passenger). In the two-seater version, the rear seat space is very cramped, barely accommodating one adult.
Performance and Range
The Kimi K3 is equipped with an electric motor producing a maximum output of 20kW (approximately 27 hp), with a top speed limited to 80 km/h. The battery capacity is 10 kWh (lithium iron phosphate), providing a driving range of approximately 120 km under the Chinese standard (NEDC). In actual urban driving conditions, the range is around 80–100 km, making it suitable for commuting or short-distance shopping. Charging can be done via a standard household 220V outlet, taking 6–8 hours for a full charge; fast charging is not supported.
Price and Sales Strategy
The Kimi K3 is priced at approximately 30,000 yuan (about 5.5 million KRW) in China, cheaper than the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV (about 35,000 yuan). Kimi operates a sales channel combining online direct sales and small experience stores, initially targeting young consumers in China's first- and second-tier cities. Starting in 2024, it entered the European market, signing supply contracts for urban shared mobility services in Germany and France.
Comparison with Competing Models
The Kimi K3's main competitors include the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, Great Wall Ora R1, and NIO's low-cost models. The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV offers more space with four seats, but the Kimi K3 differentiates itself with a smaller size and lower price. Additionally, while the Kimi K3 does not support a battery swap system, the vehicle itself is very light (about 500 kg), resulting in high energy efficiency.
Safety and Regulations
The Kimi K3 meets China's ultra-compact EV regulations (four-wheeled vehicle, top speed under 80 km/h, curb weight under 600 kg). Standard safety equipment includes a driver airbag, ABS (anti-lock braking system), and a rearview camera, with pedestrian protection features added for European export models. However, crash test results have not been disclosed, raising concerns among some consumers.
Latest Trends
In the second half of 2024, Kimi announced a facelift model of the K3, the 'Kimi K3 Plus'. Key changes include an increased battery capacity to 15 kWh, extending the range to 150 km, and an enlarged 7-inch display panel. Additionally, in early 2025, Kimi opened its first overseas showroom in Berlin, Germany, driven by strong sales in the European market. Meanwhile, in China, sales of the K3 have been slightly declining since the fourth quarter of 2024 due to the government's reduction in subsidies for ultra-compact EVs. In response, Kimi announced plans to launch a battery-swappable model starting in the second quarter of 2025.
