OnTheGo

Overview

OnTheGo (온더고) is an O2O (Online to Offline) on-demand platform brand that provides integrated mobility, delivery, pickup, and everyday convenience services based on a smartphone app. Users can handle vehicle hailing, food and daily necessities delivery, and in-store pickup reservations all at once in a single app, while businesses secure demand data in real time to improve operational efficiency. As the name 'On the go' suggests, its core value is to immediately connect users with the services they need according to their situation and location, without being tied to a specific service.

Service Structure

OnTheGo is largely composed of three pillars. The first is hailing and mobility services, where users enter an origin and destination in the app and are matched in real time with partner drivers deployed nearby. The second is delivery and quick commerce, a short-distance logistics service that delivers products from restaurants, convenience stores, and marts within 30 minutes to 1 hour. The third is reservation and pickup, which supports a contactless consumption method in which users order without visiting a store and receive their order at a designated time. These three pillars share the same location-based matching engine and payment system.

Core Technology

The platform's competitiveness lies in its real-time matching algorithm and demand forecasting model. It learns from past order and mobility data to forecast demand by time slot and region, and based on this, pre-deploys partner personnel. In addition, GPS-based optimal route search, multi-order batching (batch matching), and dynamic pricing are combined to reduce wait times and empty-vehicle rates. Payments and settlements are unified through an in-app e-wallet, so transactions are processed without cash.

Business Model

Revenue is largely divided into brokerage fees, advertising and promotions, and subscription memberships. Users pay a per-order delivery fee and hailing fee, while participating stores and partner drivers are charged a certain percentage of transaction value as a fee. On top of this, top-placement ads, discount coupons, and regular delivery subscription products are combined to secure recurring revenue. Data-based recommendations improve advertising efficiency and serve as an additional revenue source.

Operations and Partner Ecosystem

OnTheGo adopts a lightweight structure that relies on a partner network rather than directly operating its own vehicles and logistics centers. Individual drivers, small business owners, and local logistics hubs participate in the platform to form supply, while the platform handles matching, payment, settlement, and customer response. This structure has the advantage of low initial investment burden and rapid regional expansion, but it comes with the challenges of partner treatment and service quality variance.

User Experience

The app provides real-time location tracking from order to arrival, estimated time of arrival guidance, and driver/store rating features. Recently, convenience features such as voice ordering, easy reordering, and family shared payment have been strengthened, and for accessibility improvement, screen size and font size adjustment and multilingual support are also expanding.

Latest Trends

In 2024–2025, the on-demand and quick commerce market to which OnTheGo belongs is being reorganized in three directions. First, changes in the regulatory environment. As demands for platform worker protection and fee transparency grow, forming win-win consultative bodies, discussing fee caps, and expanding social insurance coverage have emerged as major issues. Second, AI-based hyper-personalization. Customer service automation using generative AI, more sophisticated demand forecasting, and automatic ordering linked to store inventory have entered the commercialization stage. Third, local community-oriented and integrated super app strategies. As profitability from single services declines, competition for super apps that bundle mobility, delivery, payment, and finance into one app is intensifying, and local specialized models targeting small and medium-sized provincial cities are also increasing. Along with this, the introduction of eco-friendly and automated logistics such as electric two-wheelers and autonomous delivery robots is expanding, and attempts to simultaneously reduce carbon emissions and labor costs are continuing.
