Pipeline attacks is a blanket term for incidents in which military strikes, drone bombings, detonations, cyber attacks, and the like are carried out against pipeline facilities that transport energy resources such as crude oil and natural gas. Pipelines are core infrastructure for a nation's economy and energy security, and an attack on them can lead to sharp spikes in international oil prices, the collapse of supply chains, and heightened geopolitical tensions. In particular, the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline sabotage and the repeated drone attacks during the Russia-Ukraine War show that energy infrastructure has become a major target in modern warfare.

Pipeline attacks are broadly divided into three types. First, cases in which pipelines are attacked as military objectives during war between states. Second, cases in which terrorists or insurgents bomb them for economic or political purposes. Third, non-physical attacks that paralyze control systems through cyber attacks. Europe, prompted by the Nord Stream incident, sharply reduced its dependence on Russian energy and pursued diversification of LNG imports.

In 2025, as precision strike technology using drones and unmanned submersibles becomes more advanced, the cost of pipeline defense is soaring.
