Vegzelma
Overview
Vegzelma (베그젤마) is the fourth map of Battlegrounds (배틀그라운드), officially released through the December 2024 update. It is a small 4x4 km map, offering a unique environment blending jungle and desert, along with fast-paced combat. Due to its narrower battlefield and higher engagement frequency compared to existing maps, it is regarded by players as a map where they can enjoy 'hack and slash' style battles.
Main Content
Terrain and Environment
Vegzelma is broadly divided into three main biomes: dense jungle areas, arid desert areas, and a central ancient ruins site. The jungle area is thick with trees and bushes, advantageous for concealment but making it difficult to secure sightlines, leading to frequent close-quarters combat. The desert area has many open spaces, suitable for sniper battles, with rocks and small hills serving as cover. The central ruins feature collapsed buildings and underground passages intertwined, resulting in complex engagements. The map has many areas with significant elevation differences, making strategic positioning using vehicles or footholds important during movement.
Gameplay Features
Vegzelma is 4x4 km in size, four times smaller than the existing 8x8 km maps (e.g., Erangel). Consequently, a maximum of 64 players participate per match, with an average game time of 15–20 minutes. The safe zone shrinks quickly, and the first safe zone is set narrowly, leading to active engagements from the early game. Additionally, 'loot density' is high across the map, allowing players to arm themselves quickly. In particular, high-tier loot (e.g., AWM, Groza) appears more frequently than on standard maps, making momentary skill and reaction speed more decisive than strategy.
Major Landmarks
Vegzelma has 10 major landmarks. 'Jungle Temple' is the core area of the central ruins, enabling underground passage and rooftop combat. 'Desert Oasis' is the only water source in the desert area, with buildings clustered around it, making it a popular drop location. 'Ancient Port' is a port area located in the south of the map, with many containers and warehouses, leading to frequent close-quarters combat. 'Ruined Village' is a small village in the northwest, suitable for early-game looting. Other landmarks include 'Rocky Canyon', 'Abandoned Mine', and 'Jungle Outpost'.
Strategies and Tips
In Vegzelma, quick movement and positioning are key to survival. Due to the map's small size, rotations using vehicles (especially motorcycles) are important, and 'edge play'—moving along the safe zone boundary—is effective. In jungle areas, weapons with suppressors are advantageous, while in desert areas, long-range sniper rifles are essential. In the central ruins, ambush strategies using underground passages are frequently employed. Additionally, 'resurrection beacons' are placed across the map, providing an opportunity to revive teammates within a certain time after death.
Latest Trends
Since its release in December 2024, Vegzelma has gained significant popularity in the Battlegrounds community. As of January 2025, it shows a high selection rate, with about 30% of all matches taking place on Vegzelma. In particular, it is regarded as the 'best map' among players who prefer fast game tempos, and it is trending toward being adopted as an official map in esports tournaments. The February 2025 update added a 'Night Mode', offering a new experience of combat under limited visibility. Furthermore, the developers are continuously adjusting loot density in specific areas and fixing bugs through balance patches. Some players have criticized the map for being too narrow and lacking strategic diversity, but overall, positive reactions prevail.
