Growth and junior career

Wang Zhiyi, who grew up in the Hubei Province badminton system from an early age, stood out in Chinese domestic age-group competitions from her junior days. She achieved good results at the 2018 Asian Junior Championships, establishing herself as a key member of the national youth team, and afterward quickly adapted to the senior stage. As Wang Zhiyi emerged as the next-generation prospect during the period when Chinese women's singles was led by Chen Yufei (천위페이), He Bingjiao (허빙자오), and others, she naturally took on a part of the generational transition.

National team debut and breakthrough

After fully entering the senior stage, she raised her ranking by accumulating titles mainly in lower-tier BWF World Tour events. In 2021, when the Chinese national team won the Sudirman Cup (mixed team event), she was named as a team member, and in the same year she also contributed as part of the team's strength during China's Uber Cup (women's team event) victory. Wang Zhiyi's greatest strengths are her unwavering defense and her stamina to endure long rallies to the end.
