Keywords That Keep Showing Up in Recent Entry-Level Backend Job Postings

I skimmed through about 100 job postings and put this together. There are a few things that have clearly changed from last year.

Containers/K8s: Last year it was a plus; this year it's close to a must-have
Message queues (Kafka): Mentioned more often even outside data teams
Observability: This term shows up more often than "monitoring"
LLM integration experience: A clear differentiator if you have it
Go/Rust: Still a minority, but slowly growing

Java/Spring is still the baseline. If you're entry-level, focus there, and it'd be good to get hands-on experience actually using one or two of the keywords above in a project.

Agreed. Especially K8s really feels different from last year. Now it's just listed in entry-level job postings too.

Well, they’re asking entry-level candidates for Kafka experience? That’s most likely either a data platform job posting or a case where the preferred qualifications were just copied and pasted. If you show with numbers how many out of 100 listed it as a requirement, that would be convincing.
