The 25th is a date concept referring to the 25th day of a month in the Gregorian calendar. In months with 31 days, it is close to the end of the month; in months with 30 days and in February, its relative position differs. Position in the Calendar
In the Gregorian calendar, the 25th is a date that exists in every month, and the number of days remaining until the end of the month varies according to the month length of 28–31 days. Except for February, it usually falls in the final week of the month and is used as an important boundary point in weekly accounting and settlement cycles. Because of the difference between the Julian and Gregorian calendars, the 25th also frequently appears in interpretations of historical dates.
December 25: Christmas
December 25 is Christmas, commemorating the birth of Jesus in Christian tradition; it is a public holiday in most countries around the world and the peak of the largest consumption season. In Korea, it is also designated as a legal public holiday and has become a cultural holiday centered on family and couples beyond its religious meaning. Commercially, it forms the peak season for the year-end retail, travel, and dining industries.
Payday and Settlement Culture
Many Korean companies designate the 25th of each month as payday. This is often because the 25th payday practice developed in connection with financial-sector loan repayment dates, credit card payment dates, and various automatic transfer dates. Accordingly, consumption patterns and liquidity fluctuate around the 25th, and 'payday' cultural content and marketing are often concentrated around it.
The 25th in History
December 25 is the date on which major events occurred, including the coronation of Charlemagne in 800 and Mikhail Gorbachev's resignation as President of the Soviet Union in 1991. April 25 is designated and observed as World Malaria Day, and October 25 as Dokdo Day. In this way, the 25th is also a date on which many anniversaries at the national and international organization levels are placed.
Recent Trends
As of 2024–2025, the 25th is being reorganized in close connection with digital finance. As regular payment dates cluster on the 25th due to the spread of simple payments and the subscription economy, the 'concentrated payment on the 25th' phenomenon is becoming prominent, and the financial sector is expanding campaigns to spread out payment dates. In addition, during the Christmas season, the trend of experiential consumption and 'local Christmas' centered on local commercial districts is strengthening. Meanwhile, the trend of various anniversaries and campaign days combining with social media hashtags and spreading again online continues.
