Claude Duet
Overview
"Claude Duet" is an unofficial, hybrid name for which no case has been confirmed of Anthropic or Google adopting it as an official product name. It is generally interpreted as an expression formed by combining Anthropic's conversational AI assistant "Claude" and Google's collaborative AI integrated into Google Workspace and Cloud, "Duet AI" (now Gemini). Therefore, this document describes the actual concepts of the two product families and the "duet-style collaborative AI" paradigm in which AI pairs with people to perform work.

Origin of the Name and Potential for Confusion
"Duet" was originally a brand name Google gave in 2023 to generative AI assistance features for Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Meet) and Google Cloud. Later, in 2024, Google integrated "Duet AI" and "Bard" and rebranded to "Gemini"; therefore, after 2024, "Duet" remains a past brand rather than an official product name. On the other hand, "Claude" is Anthropic's product name, and as the two names are often compared side by side in one sentence, the compound expression "Claude Duet" appears to have emerged. When this expression is used in search and communities, it generally refers to one of the following: (1) feature comparisons between Claude and Google Assistant, (2) Claude-based collaboration (copilot) use, or (3) use cases for linking or combining the two services.
Features of Anthropic's Claude
Claude is a family of large language models and a conversational interface developed by Anthropic. After Claude 1 and 2 in 2023, the Claude 3 product family (Haiku, Sonnet, Opus) was released in 2024,细分 performance tiers, and in the same year Claude 3.5 Sonnet and 3.5 Haiku were announced. Main features include long-context processing (200,000 tokens by default, up to around 1 million tokens when expanded), document and image understanding, previews of code and document outputs through "Artifacts," project-based knowledge management, and safety training via Constitutional AI. In addition, through the "Computer Use" feature in late 2024 and "Claude Code" in 2025, it expanded into agentic task execution.
From Google Duet AI to Gemini
Duet AI advocated "AI embedded in work tools," including document writing, email drafting, meeting summaries, spreadsheet formula generation, and cloud development support. As it was integrated into Gemini in 2024, the model name and brand were unified, and it later developed into Gemini Advanced, Workspace extensions, and agent protocols (A2A). In other words, the word "Duet" still remains with the collaborative meaning of "working together with an AI assistant."
The Duet-Style Collaborative AI Paradigm
The reason the metaphor "duet" is important is that it compresses the change in how AI is used. If early chatbots were question-and-answer type, recently the pair model, in which humans and AI divide roles and work jointly, has become mainstream. Representative examples include developers' pair programming, writers' drafting and revision collaboration, and analysts' data exploration assistance. At this point, the key issues are responsibility for verifying outputs, copyright and source attribution, guarantees that corporate data will not be used for training, and human-in-the-loop design premised on human reviewers. This is the same context in which the Claude family emphasizes data protection in enterprise pricing plans and Google offers Workspace governance features together.
Comparative Perspective
The two services have different approaches. Claude is a general-purpose assistant centered on conversation, documents, and code, and aims for an API ecosystem; it takes a "model-first" strategy in which developers directly call the model and embed it into products. Gemini is closer to a "platform-first" strategy of embedding AI into Google's existing service touchpoints such as Search, Workspace, and Android. In actual work, there are many cases of using the two tools in parallel for different purposes.
Latest Trends
From 2024 to 2025, the center of gravity shifted from "model performance competition" to "agents and standardization." In November 2024, Anthropic released the Model Context Protocol (MCP), standardizing how external tools and data are connected; in 2025, it announced Claude 3.7 Sonnet with enhanced reasoning, the coding agent Claude Code, and then the Claude 4 generation (Opus 4 and Sonnet 4), putting long-running tasks and coding automation at the forefront. Google organized the Duet brand and reorganized around Gemini, and in 2025 released the A2A protocol for collaboration between agents. In common, functions that "perform on behalf of" users, such as coding assistance, document automation, and browser and terminal operation, are expanding, while demands for safety guardrails and audit logs against prompt injection and excessive autonomy are also growing. The expression "Claude Duet" should also be understood not as a specific product but as a keyword reflecting the recent practical practice of pairing different AIs in work flows.
