Lotto 1241
Overview
Lotto 1241 (Korean: 로또1241; the 1,241st Lotto drawing) is an identifying name for the 1,241st drawing of the lottery 'Lotto 6/45' issued in South Korea. Players choose six numbers from 1 to 45 and win first prize if all match; drawings are held publicly on a designated day each week via broadcast. Drawing numbers increase by one each week based on the first drawing held on December 7, 2002, and drawing 1241 is the unique number assigned as an extension of that sequence.

Drawing Number System and Meaning
The expression 'Lotto 1241' does not mean that the number itself has special symbolism; it is a serial number indicating the cumulative number of weekly drawings. Because drawing 1 began in December 2002, the approximate drawing date can be back-calculated from the drawing number. Since it increases by about 52 drawings per year, drawing 1241 corresponds to a point more than 20 years after drawing 1, and by then Lotto's sales channels, purchase limits, prize payment procedures, and other aspects had changed significantly from the early days.
Drawing Method
Drawings are made public after weekly sales close, at a designated broadcast time, either live or recorded. Six balls are randomly drawn from 45 balls in the drawing machine, and one additional bonus number is then drawn to determine second prize. The drawing process takes place in the presence of general observers, and the broadcaster and lottery operator announce the results. Since purchases for that drawing are completely blocked after the sales deadline, sales tend to surge just before the deadline.
Winning Structure and Criteria by Rank
- First prize: Match all 6 numbers. The prize money is paid by dividing the total first-prize amount for that drawing by the number of winners; if there are no winners, it is carried over to the next drawing.
- Second prize: Match 5 numbers + the bonus number.
- Third prize: Match 5 numbers.
- Fourth prize: Match 4 numbers (fixed amount).
- Fifth prize: Match 3 numbers (fixed amount).
The probability of winning first prize is about 1 in 8.14 million, corresponding to the number of combinations for choosing 6 out of 45 (8,145,060). Second and third prizes are distinguished by whether 5 numbers are matched and whether the bonus number is included, and the probabilities drop sharply. Because matching even only 3 numbers qualifies for the lowest prize, the perceived winning rate feels relatively high.
Prize Payment and Taxation
Prize money begins to be paid starting the day after the drawing date, and if it is not claimed within a certain period (usually one year) from the payment start date, the claim right expires and the prize is transferred to the lottery fund. Taxation varies by income bracket: amounts below a certain threshold are tax-free, while amounts above that are subject to other income tax and resident tax, with higher rates applied to high-value brackets. When the first prize is carried over, the drawing's total amount grows, and the tax burden increases along with it.
How to Check Drawing Information
The winning numbers, number of winners by rank, and prize amounts for a specific drawing can be checked through the lottery operator's official website, sales outlets, broadcast replays, and other channels. Information for each drawing is disclosed as cumulative data, so drawing 1241 can also be searched in the official inquiry system for its numbers and prize amount size. However, the results cannot be determined from the drawing number alone, and they must be confirmed based on official announcements.
Latest Trends
As of 2024–2025, the Lotto market shows a trend in which sales scale is steadily maintained or expanded. As the share of mobile and online purchases increases, sales per drawing have become larger than in the past, and drawings in which the first prize is formed at a high amount frequently appear accordingly. At the same time, cases of unclaimed high-value prizes, expiration of prize money, and achievements in public-interest use of the lottery fund are emerging as major social discussion topics. Interest in procedures for verifying the fairness of drawings and in broadcast methods continues, and the number of users who analyze drawing-by-drawing winning data to study number selection patterns has also increased. Lottery purchases are perceived as consumption combining leisure and donation characteristics, while responsible-purchase policies cautioning against excessive purchasing are also being emphasized.
