Starting running again today
Ran 3km and my knees are making sounds. Muscle soreness is booked for tomorrow.

True, the sound coming from knees is seriously creepy lol
3km is pretty good for the first day, seriously.
It's funny that you even made a reservation for muscle soreness lol. Be careful going down the stairs tomorrow.
Everyone freaks out when their knees make noise, but if it's noise without pain, it's called crepitus—gas bubbles popping inside the joint—and it often isn't a big deal. But if it hurts along with the noise, you need to rest immediately. Be sure to distinguish between the two.
I had the same experience last year—I started with 3 km and ended up going to the hospital within a week because my knee hurt. The culprit was my running shoes: I ran in sneakers that were several years old, and the cushioning was completely shot. If your shoes are old, it might be worth checking them. As for pace, go really slowly—at a speed where you can talk with the person next to you.
Well, isn't that old news? Just because your knees make noise doesn't mean it's dangerous; these days they say not moving is actually worse. Those comments spreading baseless fear are kind of off-putting.
Got a source? It seems a bit risky to conclude that joint noises are fine without seeing a doctor.
