Mid-30s Health Checkup Results + What Happened After I Changed My Lifestyle

At last year’s checkup, I was told for the first time that I needed a follow-up test. That shocked me, so I overhauled some of my lifestyle habits, and now that I’ve had this year’s checkup, I’m writing it all up.

What was flagged in last year’s results

  • Blood pressure 140/95 (borderline hypertension)
  • Triglycerides 210
  • Liver enzyme ALT 62 (slightly above normal range)

All together, I was told, “If you keep going like this, you’re going to be in big trouble in your 40s.” I drank 3–4 times a week, barely exercised, and late-night snacking was a habit.

What I changed

1. Limited drinking to once a week (and even then, just two cans of beer)

2. No eating after 9 p.m.

3. Walking 30 minutes 4 times a week + strength training twice a week

4. Limited coffee to 2 cups a day

5. No phone before bed (to improve sleep quality)

Results after 1 year

  • Blood pressure 122/80
  • Triglycerides 130
  • ALT 34

I didn’t know the numbers would change this much. Honestly, I even considered medication, but my doctor said to try fixing my lifestyle habits for three months first, so that’s what I did.

What I learned is that once you’re past your 30s, your body really sends you signals. I think changing just one thing at a time is the answer. Speaking as someone who tried to change everything at once and failed.

Going from 210 to 130 triglycerides is almost half, and in just one year? Honestly, I'm kind of jealous lol. Mine barely goes down even after a year.

Well, I'm not so sure about that. ALT dropping from 62 to 34 is possible through lifestyle changes alone, but if it got that low in just one year, there were probably other factors at play too. Did you take any supplements or medication during that time? And you said you limited alcohol to once a week, but if that still meant two cans of beer, then you didn't completely quit, did you? Of course, cutting back itself is impressive, but looking at just the results, it does feel a bit exaggerated.
