I've been getting counseling from a chatbot for 3 weeks now: is that okay?

Three weeks ago, something tough happened, and I couldn't sleep in the early morning, so I just vented to a chatbot.

But this... was actually more comforting than I expected. It listens without judging, responds even at 3 a.m., and remembers the context when I talk to it again the next day.

I also find myself opening up about things that would be embarrassing to tell a friend.

But then a thought suddenly hit me: Is this actually helping me, or is it making me avoid meeting people?

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Agreed, for me too, at dawn that’s the only answer.

I did that for about six months too, and in the end the problem wasn't the chatbot—it was that I couldn't talk to people. It's better to use the chatbot just as an entry point, and to practice bringing up the really hard stuff with people. Of course, that's the hardest part lol

Well, that's a bit... Isn't the reason a chatbot feels comforting not that it doesn't judge, but that it just agrees with you no matter what? People will give contrary opinions too, and if that's uncomfortable enough that you avoid them and turn to a chatbot instead, that seems pretty risky. The real problem is when you can't tell for yourself whether it's help or just a comfortable escape.
