Lately, whenever I see the news, there's constant talk about AI regulation
This morning I was watching the news and there was endless talk about AI-related regulation. I can understand issues like deepfakes, but I also wonder if excessive regulation might just hold back technological progress.
But on the other hand, if definitely dangerous cases start appearing, maybe it could be too late by then... What do you all think?

Agreed, regulations should be only as much as necessary.
Last year, an acquaintance of mine was victimized by deepfakes, so I'm adding my vote to the opinion that regulation is needed. But if you hold back technological progress, you'll inevitably fall behind, so balance is key. And there's truth to the claim that regulating recklessly like Europe would end up killing innovation.
Well, isn't that a bit optimistic? Even with regulations, deepfake crimes are already happening, so it's already too late. The talk of technological advancement seems like corporate lobbying.
Isn't that old news? I think these days, practical use should come before AI regulation.
